The Animation Guild has succeeded in its bid to establish a union in Texas.
Austin-headquartered Powerhouse Animation Studios (Castlevania, Sonic Frontiers: Divergence) has voluntarily recognized a bargaining unit of 129 artists and production workers that sought to join the IATSE Local, the union announced on Thursday. TAG first started unionizing animation studios outside of L.A. County in 2022 with its push at Harriet the Spy studio Titmouse New York, but its new union at Powerhouse Animation marks its first in a so-called “right-to-work” state.

WE DID IT!! WE’RE OFFICIALLY UNION!!
From the Animation Guild:
“TAG and #Powerhouse have reached a historic voluntary agreement! This marks a significant moment for #animation as Texas becomes the 1st Right-to-Work state & 2nd state outside of CA to have union-represented animation workers. Let’s celebrate! Congrats to our newest colleagues!”
I’m so, so incredibly proud of us, I can’t even begin to express. We were a non-union studio for over 20 years, and at this time last year we were still non-union. We changed this. If you’re at a non-union studio YOU CAN TOO!! Just start talking to each other and reach out to TAG! Their guidance is so, so good and they’ll be with you every step of the way. Our organizer Ben Speight has been absolutely incredible to work with for the past year and he has my sword forever.
We I love my coworkers so much and I’m so excited for the future of our studio and to move forward with negotiations 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛 (Also I drew their splash image!!)
wait till ya see the next few gundam shows coming out. It is clear bandai isn't a fan of G Witch and its success. And no, us Gundam veterans are not looking forward to the next 3 shows.
Honestly, all the love and respect for the G Witch team. I hope the sales are good because the animation industry is a tough one. There’s a lot of behind the scenes bullshit that happens, ESPECIALLY for any show that tries to break the norm (such as having openly queer characters). It’s a constant uphill battle that is fueled by people’s passion to push through.
